Hosted on Symposium by ForagerOne
Hello and Welcome to UNC Charlotte's first, Collaboration in Action: Engaged Scholarship and Student Impact Symposium! We are excited to launch this new initiative across campus to not only celebrate the great research and evaluation happening on our campus, but also to share resources and network with colleagues from across departments and colleges. This symposium is a special two-day event that will encompass research and evaluation and community-engaged teaching and learning. This event is designed to bring the Charlotte community together by creatively intertwining research and evaluation alongside innovations in pedagogy, partnerships, and projects that inform student impact. In addition, this event allows space to creatively connect the Charlotte Model by highlighting components of student development and student success. Over the course of this two-day event, attendees will have a variety of opportunities to engage with UNC Charlotte faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
Specific information for both days of the event:
Student Impact Research and Evaluation:
In addition to increasing awareness of research and evaluation work within the UNC Charlotte community, the Engaged Scholarship and Student Impact Symposium is intended to promote networking opportunities for attendees. The event is designed to include a series of interactive opportunities that will include roundtable discussions specific to current issues and trends associated with the topic. It is expected that after participation, attendees will have gained practical and useful information that can be used to help others within the field and where the research and evaluation design could be easily replicated to inform future projects.
Engaged Scholarship:
Engaged Scholarship will focus on community-engaged teaching and learning, highlighting innovations in pedagogy, partnership, projects. As defined in the UNC Charlotte Strategic Plan, "community engagement occurs when academics and community partners work collaboratively with and through groups of people affiliated by geographic proximity, special interest or similar situations to address issues affecting the well-being of partners. At an urban university, it includes experiential learning in a community environment as well as programs of research and scholarship (community-engaged research) that are distinguished by relying on the priorities and authority of both the researchers and community stakeholders to shape the design and execution of the research and learning.
As part of the UNC Charlotte strategic plan, the Charlotte Model seeks to positively impact the sense of belonging of all Niners. The model outlines an institutional pathway for students to explore their identity as a member of the Charlotte community is an avenue for creatively intertwining a Niner identity with a greater Charlotte civic identity.
