Does Race Affect NBA Players Salary?
John Bogle
Over the past couple of decades, the National Basketball Association (NBA) has made an attempt to internationalize the game of basketball. This has been done by recruiting international players they believe will make an impact in the league and expanding to overseas markets. This project is an attempt to examine the determinants of salaries for NBA athletes, as well as identify whether the players’ race has an affect on their salary. The data used throughout the project consists of statistics for 100 NBA players from the 2018-2019 season. Of those 100 players, 24 are white and 76 are black. Some of the key findings were that there is a significant relationship between players’ salary and certain statistics of theirs like their age and points, rebounds, and assists per game. The end goal of the research project at hand is to be able to reject the null hypothesis that race does in fact affect NBA player’s salary.
