Nurses’ 100% compliance with neutropenic precautions decreases infection rates in hospitalized oncology patients.
Oncology patients with neutropenia are at an increased risk for developing infection. Because of this, nurses' 100% compliance with neutropenic precautions is crucial in protecting patients from developing infections. Less than 100% compliance can lead to increased risk of infection which may cause prolonged hospitalization, increased readmission to the hospital, and even death. Nurses' 100% compliance with neutropenic precautions can prevent infections from occurring. It is recommended that every hospital adopt routine audits, increased education, and infection surveillance to assess nurses' compliance with neutropenic precautions. If every hospital adopts these practices, nurses 100% compliance with neutropenic precautions is an attainable goal.
