Garden of Five Senses: Eco-Friendly Community Space Design at Beechurst Avenue
Parinaz Baradaran Anaraki
The Beechurst Avenue project seeks to repurpose a current parking lot into a dynamic, eco-friendly community space of approximately 12,465 ft^2. It is designed to improve the living environment for both the homeless and the general community by creating a natural and welcoming connection between the campus and the nearby river. This initiative specifically caters to WVU students, rail trail users, homeless community, and residents. The project includes the development of 5 gardens, each inspired by one of the human senses: Sound, Smell, Touch, Taste, and Sight. These gardens are strategically placed to enhance the sensory experience of visitors and provide a serene view of the Monongahela River, all while maintaining a focus on environmental sustainability.
