Business Email Compromise
CAROLINE GORDON
For the 2020-2021 academic year, I was hired as a graduate assistant to work in the Office of Information Security as a security analyst. As a security analyst, my duties are to assist with the security analysis of risk within the context of threat, vulnerabilities and impact, as well as apply suitable countermeasures that occur within the cybersphere at BSU. A major aspect of my position deals with phishing scams, which relates to the phishing scam of business email
compromise. It is one thing if a user’s account is compromised and it is another thing if a user’s account remains compromised. If a user’s account is compromised, hackers can then compromise other accounts. My role as a security analyst seeks to address and prevent potential security threats from impacting the BSU community. The phishing scam of business email compromise will be discussed and an overview of how my position addresses such security threats will be provided.
