Are the Druze a Sect of Islam?
Charles Johnson
Lightning Talk (3-5 minutes)
The Druze, an ethnoreligious minority in the Middle East, has long been a source of study due to the group’s esoteric religious practices. These practices, and the faith as a whole, have remained a subtly contentious topic within scholarship on the Druze for decades, as academics disagree on whether or not the Druze should be classified as a sect of Islam or as a separate religion. Currently, no authoritative argument comprehensively answers this question. This research aims to use a systematic literature review to determine if there exists any consensus among scholars on the issue.
