Project in Progress
With the rise of generative AI in recent times, it is understandably necessary for institutions to be conscious of the increased risk of plagiarism among students. However, with the implementation of AI-detecting software into platforms such as Turnitin, the chances of false positives increase as the software flags writing that is similar to the simple and stiff English that AI tends to generate. International and multilingual students face the heightened risk of being accused of academic misconduct because of their genuine, but simple, English due to their decreased fluency. Our team, which consists of international and multilingual students, will present the recent research and experiences of these students to raise their concerns and anxieties surrounding this topic to MSU faculty.
