Abstract or Description

MediFlex Prosthetics LLC is developing The Goldilocks Foot, a medium-priced, 3D-printed prosthetic foot designed to enhance mobility, comfort, and adaptability. This project aims to bridge the gap between high-performance yet expensive prosthetics and affordable but limited alternatives by leveraging additive manufacturing, advanced material selection, and complex design. A key innovation is the functional foot shell, designed to absorb impact, improve flexibility, and reduce overall weight. To guide product iterations, we conducted six online interviews, as well as one in-person product test to evaluate initial functionality. Additionally, we performed biomechanical testing at the Colorado Children’s Hospital Gait Lab to analyze kinematic performance and energy return. Preliminary findings indicate that users prioritize comfort, energy return, and durability, while common complaints include excessive weight and inadequate impact absorption in existing prosthetics. Based on this feedback, our product development and engineering has been focused on optimizing material composition and structural integrity to enhance performance. By integrating user insights with innovative design, The Golidlocks Foot aims to deliver an accessible, high-performance prosthetic solution. Initial marketing will be catered towards the lower to middle class American market, with global expansion subsequent to a successful US business venture. Future work will involve refining the design through further laboratory testing and user feedback, while also developing and marketing the MediFlex Prosthetics LLC.
