Museum of Black Feminism

Poster Presentation
The Museum of Black Feminism celebrates black women's often-overlooked contributions while also promoting cultural identity and empowerment. The intention of this design project is to provide an educational experience for the black community and other cultural groups about the history and culture of black women. Faced with design challenges, the museum incorporates a monumental sculpture while remaining educationally accessible to a wide range of audiences. Its narrative unfolds through galleries tracing historical milestones, breaking barriers in STEM and sports, highlighting the intersection of Black feminism with art and culture, and including a Hall of Remembrance to tribute to those who paved the way. The architectural design draws inspiration from the traditional African headwrap, symbolizing resilience and cultural identity. Custom bronze perforated metal panels make up the envelope of the building, showcasing the artistry and symbolism of the headwrap. Situated within Dallas's Arts District, the museum serves as a landmark, engaging visitors with shared narratives of blackness and feminism. As it punctuates Klyde Warren Park, it enriches the cultural landscape, fostering a sense of belonging and enlightenment for all.
