The Oppressive Social Determinants Fueling Low Mental Health Among Black Youth in Ramsey County

The Commision on Social Determinants of Health (CSDH) set up by the World Health Organization (WHO) provides the necessary framework to understand the Oppressive Social Determinants of Health fueling low mental health among Black youth, The framework identifies structural determinants, the socioeconomic determinants, and the intermediary determinants. The structural determinants include governance, macroeconomic policies, social policies, social policies, and cultural and societal values and biases. The socioeconomic determinants include social class, race and ethnicity, income, occupation, income, education, and gander. Lastly, the intermediary determinants include material circumstances, behaviors and biological factors, psychosocial factors, and the health system. Low mental health among Black youth is highly influenced by the interplay of these factors. This project focuses CSDH on the efforts and issues in Ramsey County.
