2022 URC Fall Showcase

Welcome to 2022 URC Fall Showcase!

Hosted on Symposium by ForagerOne

Welcome to the 2022 Fall Showcase! The Fall Showcase is a celebration of the hard work and accomplishments of the students and mentors participating in the 2022 Research Apprenticeship Program (RAP) and the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program. Students from the RAP and SURE programs have developed posters highlighting the research, scholarly, and creative activities they have worked on, as well as their experiences with the programs.

The 2022 RAP and SURE programs were supported by Global Education, Academic Affairs, and Library & Learning. We thank them for their support of these important engagement programs.

Welcome Message

Chris Corley Dean of Library and Learning

About the Programs

The Research Apprenticeship Program (RAP) provides research, scholarly, and creative opportunities for students who are new to research and who are underserved by undergraduate research efforts and programs on campus including: Black, Indigenous, and Students of Color; international students; and Pell-eligible students. In Spring 2022, nineteen students were hand-matched to faculty or staff mentors to contribute to projects through paid work hours over the course of the semester. In addition to work with their faculty mentors, apprentices participated in URC-organized workshops and activities with topics such as conducting literature reviews and presenting their research. The posters presented by our research apprentices describe their experiences beginning research, the type of work they completed under the supervision of their mentor, and any potential outcomes of their combined efforts in the program. The URC wishes to thank Global Education and Academic Affairs for their funding and support of the RAP program and Global Education for their continued support for the 2023 program. Applications for the 2023 Research Apprenticeship Program - Global are open for both students and potential faculty or staff mentors. Applications are due October 10th, 2022 and can be found here.

The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Program supports student and faculty work that will lead to future projects and grant proposals and provides students a positive experience that can be leveraged for future employment, fellowship, and scholarship applications. Many students supported by SURE funding had conducted research previously with their mentor, continuing work from the previous academic year into the summer sessions. For others, the program provided an opportunity to explore new topics and project ideas to be continued into the future. Posters presented by SURE Program participants highlight their experiences and the outcomes of their summer projects, as well as future goals for the projects. The URC thanks the Library & Learning for their funding and support of the 2022 SURE pilot program. Applications for the 2023 Summer Undergraduate Research Experience will be due in April 2023.

Contact the URC at [email protected] or 507-389-5191 with questions regarding RAP and SURE.
