Can Toothpaste Prevent Staining
Lucas Paez

The purpose of this project was to see which toothpaste brand best prevents staining on an eggshell in various liquids. Eggshells were used to simulate the similar effect on tooth enamel. People should care about this experiment because the peoples’ teeth will be protected and will not be stained. The hypothesis is that if toothpaste meets a liquid, then it will prevent staining because it will be tested on eggs and the egg’s shell will protect it. This project is to determine which toothpaste protects your teeth from getting stained and what liquids stain your teeth the most. Eggs were used, and toothpaste was applied on the shells. This happened three times. Three liquids were used, and the eggs were evaluated for staining. I observed the eggs and recorded the results. Crest was able to prevent the least amount of staining compared to Colgate and a Kroger product. The conclusion from this experiment is that the use of toothpaste decreases the amount of staining.
