Which Liquid Freezes the Fastest
Edward Samuelson
JR-CHM-012
I conducted an experiment using six different liquids in order to determine which liquid froze the fastest. The freezing of liquids is important because we use liquids every day, especially water. Liquids taking another form is especially important in how we use them to our advantage. Here are the reasons why freezing liquids have an important effect:
1. When water freezes it turns into ice and when ice expands it takes up more space on earth.
2. Knowing how long it takes water to freeze enables cities to determine when to clear roads.
3. When making an ice rink hot, water should be used because it is the fastest freezing liquid.
People can use my experiment to understand the application of freezing liquids in real world situations. My approach was to observe the rate at which liquids freeze. The rate at which the liquids freeze is in the following order: Hot water, cold water, vinegar, salt water, sprite, and finally, syrup. In conclusion, my experiment is generalizable and it is a subject that could be useful to everyone.
